Day 1: Avalanche Lake Trail Across the seven days we spent hiking in Glacier, we mostly had the park to ourselves - or at least it felt that way. The one place we were constantly in sight of others was on the Avalanche Lake Trail. Considering it was Memorial Day weekend, this was not such a surprise, but the fact that we didn't see very many people again was curious.
Like several other well-traveled parts of this park, Avalanche Gorge is a very famous and highly photographed place. When I'm in such places, I take my share of "snapshotty" pictures certainly, but also try to find some way to look at it differently. Here, I balanced the camera on a rock, set the shutter for 1/4 and used the auto-timer. The sharp angle the rock gave me turned out more interesting than the shots I got standing up.
